たすき【襷】

〔袖をまとめる〕 a band of cloth used for holding 《kimono, yukata》 sleeves out of the way; 〔肩から斜めにかける〕 a white sash crossing from one shoulder to the opposite hip, worn by an election candidate; (駅伝などの) a sash of cloth worn by relay marathon runners.

●たすきを掛ける hold back one's sleeves with a band of cloth; roll up one's sleeves (and work at sth with determination)
